Italian Train & City Luggage Rules Every Traveler Should Know
- Trenitalia Frecciarossa: Passengers may bring 2 free bags plus a small personal item. In Standard and Premium class, total bag dimensions (H + W + D) should not exceed 161 cm (no single side over 80 cm); in Business and Executive class, the limit is 200 cm.
- Italo High-Speed Trains: In Smart class, bags placed in end-of-coach racks must not exceed 75 × 53 × 30 cm (158 cm linear). Larger bags require booking Prima Business or Club Executive.
- Station Luggage Storage (KiPoint & Stow Your Bags): Major stations (Roma Termini, Firenze S.M.N., Venezia S. Lucia, Milano Centrale, Napoli Centrale, Bologna) have staffed KiPoint counters (€6 for the first 5 hours, then €1/hour) and automated Stow Your Bags / Bounce / Radical Storage lockers (€5–€9 per bag per day).
- Venice Vaporetto & Stepped Bridges: ACTV waterbuses include 1 bag up to 150 cm linear (H + W + D) plus a small handbag; extra or oversized bags cost €6 each, and rolling heavy 29" trunks over Venice's 400+ stepped stone bridges is exhausting (use the €7–€12 station porter or store large bags at Venezia Mestre/Santa Lucia).
