How it works: Add the high-speed and intercity train rides on your Italy itinerary below. The calculator compares your total point-to-point ticket cost (both early-bird Super Economy and flexible Base fares in EUR €) against the Trenitalia Pass (3, 4, 7, or 10 trips) and the Eurail Italy One Country Pass (including mandatory €13 high-speed seat reservations per Frecciarossa leg).
Trenitalia Pass vs. Eurail Italy Pass vs. Point-to-Point Tickets
- Booking 3–8 weeks ahead almost always beats a rail pass: Both Trenitalia (Frecciarossa) and Italo release deeply discounted early-bird fares (€19–€39 between Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, and Naples). For a classic 3-to-4-city trip, buying advance point-to-point tickets is usually €60–€140 cheaper than any pass.
- Trenitalia Pass (for non-residents of Italy): Includes 3, 4, 7, or 10 high-speed journeys on Frecciarossa, Frecciargento, Frecciabianca, and Intercity trains with seat reservations included at no extra fee (does not cover regional trains or Italo).
- Eurail Italy Pass: Covers both high-speed Frecciarossa and regional Regionale trains, but requires a mandatory €13 seat reservation fee for each Frecciarossa ride.
